And Away We Go

So begins my adventure to the west coast - California - Silicon Valley - Palo Alto. I've been sitting in the airport for a couple hours (mostly charging my devices), and after getting off the phone with my mom, decided I might as well catalog my adventures this summer as I spend about three months as an intern making what I consider boat-loads of money and getting a lot of experience as well. A lot of my friends got to blog about their time in another continent, but 3000 miles from home is about as close as I'm going to get to that this year. And since all my friends from school use it, I Tweeted my very first thing today before getting ready to board the plane. For those of you who are really into social networking, I suggest looking at Tweet Deck. You can post to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. simultaneously and also keep updated on all your friends through it. You can get it for Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android, etc. I plan on using it, just to try it out.

I managed to fit pretty much everything I need into one duffle bag, one carry-on bag, and my backpack. My duffle back was 39 pounds, just under the 40 pound limit. It's the first time I've traveled in the air with a checked bag before, and certainly the first time I've had to pay for it. I ended up checking my carry-on since they needed the overhead space and were willing to do it for free. I figured I might as well since I have to wait at the baggage claim anyway. And anything I need is in my backpack - iPod, headphones, possibly my computer. I'm still hoping there's going to be some kind of wifi, even if I have to pay for it. I remember when I flew out here in January for my interviews, Google was sponsoring free wifi on the plane but it doesn't look like that now.

Everyone is lining up to go through the gate, even though multiple announcements have been made to keep the boarding area clear. I think they just want to get overhead space, and luckily I'm not worried about that. They did say the flight is full, and so my middle seat will in fact be between a couple other people. I wonder if it will compare to when I flew to Seattle in between 2 people traveling with their cats.

Well I'm going to power down and pack up now so I can be ready to board. I'll slowly be updating the blog with different templates, possibly a Twitter/Facebook feed, and others. I may also buy a nice DSLR once I'm out there and can post pictures. Right now, I'm leaning towards the Cannon Rebel T3. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
